2012 Dia Del Ninos
| LVCC Programs - Si Se Puede |
Our 2012 Dia Del Ninos Literacy Fair event was a great success. We had 140 plus people in attendance, we connected with 27 new families, and we handed out over 400 literacy games. Our hope is be able to form deeper relationships with these families and get them connected to the church, small groups, and ministries, so that they can grow in relationship with Christ. While we want to address the issues of literacy in our neighborhoods, we also know that apart from God all things are meaningless. Thanks to all those who helped, and if you couldn't make it this year, it is an annual event. Check out the pictures below!

March was a great month for Si Se Puede. We finished our literacy unit and the students all successful composed their own story. Then we had our spring break camp, where the students were able to design projects to prevent an egg from dropping. All of our students were able to design at least one project that protected an egg from breaking during a two story drop to the ground. We culminated our camp by having a parents night where students were able to show off their work from the entire year. Students put on a little presentation with songs, a memory verse, two stories they wrote, and their egg drop presentation. We are very excited about the work our students have been doing this year and are excited to start planning our summer activities.

Last Updated (Tuesday, 14 February 2012 13:04) Si Se Puede February Update #2
Last Updated (Tuesday, 14 February 2012 12:32) |

February has started off well. LVCC's youth group recently returned from a weekend retreat at Dickson Valley where a great time was had by all. Whether it was a silly game of "Sock-Wars" (dodge-ball using socks), a frustrating team-building exercise, or a more serious heart-felt discussion reflecting on the question "Who is God? Why does He matter?" the youth enjoyed their time away. But the heart of youth group isn't centered on fun experiences, as many of them voiced their concern to give back to the community. With that, the youth are planning a trip at the end of this month to a local elderly home to host a Bingo night where they will play games and give prizes and simply hang out with the residents.
Si Se Puede is heading into its last few weeks for the school year. We are going to finish strong with a unit on critical thinking where students are going to complete activities that require them to use their higher thinking skills and stimulate their vocabulary. To partner with these activities, students are going to write their own book that requires them to be creative and draw from their array of experiences. We will continue working on phonics skills (pictured). We have found that our phonics activities are veryadvantageous to the students, especially the language learners.
