Si Se Puede
As of September 2006, La Villita Community Church’s longstanding after school program Si Se Puede (translated, Yes it can be done) has resurrected after a three-year halt. Si Se Puede is currently serving 13 students. Academically, our goal is to come alongside the local schools and aid in their pursuits to teach fundamental reading, writing, and math.  As a church based program we are motivated by our opportunity to serve Christ by serving our surrounding neighborhood through this program. Therefore, our response to God’s amazing grace through Christ is clearly integrated into our educational quests, and we are excited to share Christ through daily prayer, weekly Bible study, and Bible verse memorization.

Though Si Se Puede is still in the process of developing, it has already been rewarded with encouraging success stories; improvements in our students grades, minor improvements in basic education skills, the building of relationships with families in our neighborhood, the introduction of the gospel to some students, and the developing faith of other students. While we are still fumbling our way toward creating the best way to serve these students, their families, and our local schools, we are constantly encouraged by the reality of God’s good work through these attempts. For even though our efforts never seem sufficient, a student will show up with an A on a test or paper that we worked on together, or they will show us a report card with grade improvements, or they will recall to us the previous week’s Bible story and memory verse. It is in these ways that we are able to acknowledge God working through our service.
